These pendants are found mainly in the Baltic States, Eastern Europe and Scandinavia. Archaeologists date them mainly to the period of the 10th - 12th century and on some of them there are also the remains of wooden handles.
Amulets in the shape of axes are associated primarily with thunderous deities, warriors and family protection. Their findings may also have been miniature weapons or children's toys, as evidenced by various places in graves - chest, waist and legs.
