Description

The straw hat is made by hand from cattails - a plant we see growing by the water. Most of us surely know him - he has flowers in the shape of "cigars".

Cattail is only harvested during a certain period of time and must be adjusted to it before actual production. This material is very durable and strong at the same time. A straw hat can get wet, sun and cold don't bother it.

The dating of the hats is disputed. Since it is a rapidly decomposing natural substance, we can only confirm its existence in the High Middle Ages and Renaissance with certainty. However, it is safe to assume that similar headgear was made much earlier...

Our hats are made based on historical images from the Maciejowski Bible (Crusader Bible) and other engravings and paintings.

The attached picture of the perfect find is from Novgorod and dates back to the 13th - 14th centuries. However, it is made of pine roots.

From the historical images we can see that the hats were worn by both men and women, especially at work - so it's an absolutely universal part of clothing!

The roof of the hat is straight, nicely shaped into a circle to fit well on each head.

You can decorate the so-called crown of the hat by lining it with a ribbon, and suddenly it is an amazing hat for summer, water and garden work.

This model is also versatile in its size - since it has a conical shape, it fits both larger and smaller heads (it does stop somewhere :-) )

Thanks to sweating, the shape of the hat is even more adjustable, you can attach the hat itself with a leather strap under the chin or, if it's windy, tie it to the hem of your clothes. Our experience with this material is long, the hat can withstand several years of outdoor wear in any weather. Just please, if your hat gets wet, air dry it and you will be fine. After all, dried mullein doesn't like steaming in plastic :)
