When stretching the thread, especially when sewing leather, the thread rubs and frays and can break. By waxing the thread, you make it stronger and more solid. Waxed thread also helps make seams more water resistant.
We also use waxed wire for stringing beads and the like.
Wax is also used to treat wood or in cosmetic products and candles.
Since our wax is 100% pure beeswax, you can use it to wax canvas, which is then used for example as a vintage lid stretched over the neck of a container or as washable eco-friendly food packaging.
How to make waxed canvas (food packaging)?
To make it you need a clean canvas, wax, a fine grater, 2 pieces of baking paper and an iron with the steam function turned off.
Spread the dishcloth over the baking paper, spread the wax evenly and cover with more paper. With the iron on the highest setting, iron until the wax has spread over the linen. Remove the top paper, carefully pull the fabric by the corners and hold in the air for about 30 seconds to allow the wax to dry nicely. Then wash the cover with lukewarm water only. In case you wash it out or if too warm water washes off a large part of the wax, you need to repeat the procedure.
