In history, amulets in the shape of axes were considered protective symbols, signs of a thundering deity. Their popularity is evidenced by numerous finds from the graves of Slavs, Germans and Northmen. Sometimes they were a symbol and miniature of a practical weapon and working tool, sometimes a child's toy placed as a charity for the last journey to the medieval grave.
