Description

This type of mace is a common weapon not only for cavalry, but also for infantry and light infantry. It is used to attack plate armour, ring armour and breaks the bones of lightly clad warriors like nothing. You will notice in the illuminations that these maces very often have a loop, an eyelet, for hanging. These maces are commonly found from the 11th-12th centuries in Hungary, Germany and what is now Ukraine.

It is also known as a badge of high status. Among the Cossacks, the bulava was a symbol of power, especially among the Cossack elders in Zaporozhye. It also served the function of an iron letter, which ensured free passage and inviolability for those who carried it.
