Are you familiar with this legend from Prag and what do you know about it? We've known the phenomenon of Jaroslav Foglar's boyhood novels since the 1940s with the books The Riddle of the Puzzle, The Shadowlands Are Storming, and The Secret of Big Vont.
"In the Shadows, a mysterious urban district, there was constant strife and hostility between the boys of each street. Fights between them were the order of the day, with blows always falling on both sides. The concepts of "friendship", "honesty" and "peace" were unknown to most of the boys there. During one battle, worse and more bitter than all the previous ones, Bert Komour, the leader of one group, went to the enemy group to ask them to stop fighting. On the way, however, he was hit on the head with a rock. The wound became dirty and Bert died a few days later. The boys in the Shadows sobered up from their anger. They stood their ground in the fighting, and through the mouth of a wise and noble boy, Vojtěch Vont, they declared that they would live only in mutual respect, friendship and lasting peace with each other for all time. The coffin of Bert Komour was showered by the Shadow Boys with yellow flowers, which grew all over the Shadows. To remind them of the oath of eternal peace between them, the boys pinned them on the lapels of their coats."
When there were no more yellow flowers in the shadows, the boys decorated themselves with yellow pins. But they still proudly followed the rules of the yellow flower. The seven petals symbolize that the wearer recognizes these values:
He is a good friend
Always acts with honesty and integrity
He is always helpful and courteous to those around him
Is helpful to those around him/her
Protects the weak
He knows how to make good use of his free time
Does not smoke, drink or use drugs
